What is Sextortion?

Writer: Jessie BauwensJessie Bauwens

Sextortion is becoming more and more common. Fortunately, there are a number of things we can do to help keep kids safe on the internet. Whether they are sextortion survivors, currently experiencing sextortion, or preventing more children from having to experience this.

This article by the FBI provides an array of information on what sextortion is, recent trends and cases, what kids and teens need to know, and what caregivers need to know.

This article provides information on what sextortion looks like, how to get help, and what your best defenses against sextortion are.

One of the best things we can do is to educate and advocate for the cause. Teaching kids and teens how to be safe on the internet and how to ask for help, as well as teaching parents how to educate their kids and how to help a child, will all make an impact. We might not be able to help them all, but we can work to help the ones that we can.
